A small but interesting monthly sale was held at Bakewell on Friday in which 155 cattle were catalogued and apart from an odd stock bull all sold on a flying trade.
The sale as usual started with the breeding cattle with an overall average of £1,371 and a top price of £1,490 for a Blue cow (6yrs) with her classy heifer calf at foot (4mths) from Ian Hulme, Green Fairfield who sold another similar outfit at £1,470 and £1,350.
Close behind the top price was the first cow in to the ring a Blue Cow (5½ yrs) with her Lim steer calf at foot (4mths) sold at £1,480 from Mr A Matkin, Roston, Ashbourne. A Limousin second calver from W and A Cartledge, Sparrow Pit sold at £1,440. A good run of 14 Blue x in calf cows sold from Mr Tom Shally, Derby and topped at £1,025 for a February calver with others at £1,000 (twice) £980, £960, £950.
An entry of eight stock bulls sold on a buoyant trade with just one failing to find a new home. Top call was £2,700 for a five year old British Blue from Ian Hulme, Green Fairfield.
Young Bulls sold exceptionally well and a very lively trade. Top call was £950 for a Pure Limousin (16mths) from Andrew Wainwright, Bolsterstone who sold another at £890. Also at £890 was a trio of Blue x Limousins (9-11mths) from Jonathon Hall, Youlgreave. While £820 was the final price of a pair of Blue x Friesians (8-10mths) from RR Mason & Son, Hulland Ward.
