Prices reached the dizzy heights of 20,000gns at the Solway and Tyne Texel breeders club show and sale at Carlisle last week. Leading trade was a ram lamb from the Strathbogie flock of Messrs Innes and Sons with Strathbogie Upping the Ante. This February 2013 born lamb is full brother to the 2013 Royal Highland Show winner and is by Strathbogie Terminator. This one sold in a half share to J Forsyth, Lochland Farm, Maybole, Ayrshire and Messrs Ridley, Haltcliffe, Hesket New Market, Cumbria

Next in the money at 10,000gns was an entry from Bruce Renwick’s Castlecairn flock with the ram lamb Castlecairn Union Lido. This Teiglum Tornado son sold in a three way share to J Forsyth, Lochland Farm, Maybole, Ayrshire, WJ Knox, Mid Haddo, Fyvie,Turriff,Aberdeenshire and J G Douglas, Woodhead Farm, Cairness, Fraserburgh,Aberdeenshire. Mr Renwick was also in the money with Castlecairn Ubertastic also by Tornado. He sold to D Chambers, Twelve Oaks, Rushden Rd, Newton Bromswold, Northamptonshire.

Falling under the hammer at just 2,000gns less was Brian Buchan’s Clinterty United by Ettrick Smasher. This one’s dam is the flocks famous 301 ewe and this ram lamb boosts an eight week weight gain EBV of 4.51kg. He sold to S W Cobbald, Acorn Farms, Acton Hall, Acton, Suffolk.

Five pockets helped secured the reserve overall champion and first prize ram lamb Duncryne Uber Cool for 7,000gns to bidders all from Northern Ireland. The vendor K Jarvie of the Duncryne prefix retained the fifth share with the other sellers being; R Strawbridge, 279 Drumcroon Road, Coleraine, Co.Londonderry, A Gault, 37 Carntall Road, Newtownabbey, Co.Antrim, Paul O’Connor, 19 Drumgooland Road, Downpatrick, Co.Down, A Kennedy, 122 Straid Road, Killybegs, Ballymena ,Co. Antrim. This ram lamb is by Baltier Thunderbird who was purchased for 14,000gns at Carlisle in 2012.
