2,000gns new record price for Lleyn female set at Carlisle

It was a day of records at Harrison and Hetherington at the weekend, with a new breed record set in the sheep ring, as well as the cattle ring.
Topping the sale and setting the new Lleyn female record was a 2009 ewe from D N Bennett & Son, Powys, selling for 2,000gns to Jock Allen, Lanarkshire. The pre-sale champion comes from a line of successes, having won the Female Championship at the North Wales Club Show 2011 and winning second as a gimmer at the Royal Welsh Show in 2010.
She was scanned in lamb for twins to the 7,000gns ram Bankhall Powerhouse. Her sire has bred rams to 5,000gns and has daughters that have bred rams to 18,000gns.
The Bennett Family sold a further two shearlings for 650gns and 950gns before selling the first prize ewe lamb for another breed record of 800gns to R E Jones.
The second prize shearling ewe from J A & R Geldard & Sons, Kendal was the next to top when selling a shearling scanned with twins to a Sackville Hamilton ram. This lot was purchased by A G Hughes for 1,700gns.
J K Goldie sold another shearling for 850gns. Whilst son Hamish Goldie sold a shearling for 900gns.
The
Derek Steen, Lockerbie had some highlights with two lots selling for 800gns to M Mullen and Brian Walling of Farmstock Genetics. He sold a daughter of Lluest Commander for 700gns and a daughter of Balliney Actionman for 500gns to Graham Shepherd,
Farmstock Genetics sold a 2009 ewe which had won several shows throughout 2010. Scanned a triplet in lamb to Incheoch Mojo she realised 800gns to JA Robertson & Partners.
