Following last week’s Haltcliffe heifer sale I’ve had confirmation from John Elliot of his pick from the 2009-born heifers offered as lot one which he paid 30,000gns for.

John’s pick is Haltcliffe Emerald, she is a Sympa daughter out of top embryo donor Perle. Emerald is four weeks off calving to 34,000gns Cloughhead Ernie and has the highest Maternal Value index (25) and Beef Value Index (38) of all the Haltcliffe 2009 born females.

Explaining the choice John said although the decision should have been difficult, it was made easy due to the quality of Emerald. “We picked her as our favourite on looks before we saw that she had the highest beef value and maternal value in the Haltcliffe 2009 heifers.

“She is a real superstar with a fantastic proven pedigree to match. We are sure that Emerald will become a great foundation cow for the Roxburgh herd.”
