Nearly 60% of producers believe showing is holding back genetic progress in the livestock industry, according to a Farmers Weekly’s poll.

The online survey follows comments made by an Australian beef farmer at the British Cattle Breeders conference that cattle showing had no industry relevance and damaged performance data.

Out of 207 respondents, 120 (57.97%) said showing was holding back genetic progress, while 71 people (24.3%) said they disagreed.

The rest said they were unsure.
