TWO OF the biggest names on the Scottish sheep scene struck an 8500gns deal for a Texel ewe sired by Craighead Hercules, whose progeny have grossed 750,000.

The ewe was part of the consignment from John Forsyth”s Milnbank flock offered in the Christmas Stars sale at Carlisle last weekend.

Although not a Group 1 ewe – she was ARR/ARH – the shearling produced the day”s strongest bidding during the six-flock sale.

Mr Forsyth sold another Hercules gimmer at 6500gns to E Pugh of Bala, north Wales.

She was out of a Glenside Gurka dam and in lamb to the 122,000gns Tophill Joe. Leading flock averages: Milnbank – 15 head 2034; Fordafourie – 17 head 1279 and Castlecairn – 22 head 1799 (Harrison and Hetherington).
