The mid-September Craven Dairy Auction at Skipton Auction Mart saw prices topping at £2000 for the second prize newly-calven cow shown by Malcolm Swires, Harrogate, on behalf of his daughter, Libby Simpson. She went to G R Parkin, Selsby.

 

However, it was Farmer and son duo, Eric and Andrew Jennings, Abbeyhouse pedigree Holstein Friesans, Ripon, who took the champion title with a newly-calven cow giving 42 kilo.

 

The Jennings also took reserve champion for a newly-calven heifer, producing 31 litres, was purchased for £1900 by Alf Townsend, Burnley, who also acquired the third in class from David Booth, Lothersdale for £1880. The same price was also paid for another newly-calven heifer from K J and C A Hardcastle, Darley by Albert Mellin, Oakworth.

 

Newly-calven heifers averaged £1729 and newly calven cows £1479.
