Alwent flock leads Borderway Texel sale at 4,200gns

The reduction sale of the Alwent Texel flock at Borderway Mart on behalf of Messrs T Nesbit and Son, Darlington, Co Durham, topped at 4,200gns for a gimmer by Goldies Supreme.

She was out of a dam by Drinkstone Oh So Smart and sold having been scanned with twins sired by Clinterty USA. She is in the breed’s top 1% for muscle depth and gigot CT. The buyer was DM and S Prince, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, who also purchased the next two top priced lots on the day.

Next best at 2,900gns was the Teviot Rocket daughter NTA1300762, also scanned in lamb with twins by Goldies Supreme.

Their third purchase at 2,700gns was another Goldie’s Supreme gimmer, which was carrying twins by Clinterty USA.

The Prince family paid 2,200gns for NTA1300721, sired again by Goldies Supreme and out of a dam by Drinkstone Oh So Smart. She sold carrying one by Clinterty USA.

Fourth best bid of 2,400gns went to the Goldies Supreme daughter NTA1300717, out of a dam by Drinkstone Oh So Smart. She sold carrying twins by Cambell Rob Roy and was knocked down to Kedzlie Farms, Lauderdale, Galashiels.

Two lots sold for 2,000gns. First of these was NTA1300650, sired by Goldies Supreme and within the top 1% of the breed for muscle depth. Buyer was Kedzlie Farms.

Next at this money was another Goldies Supreme daughter, this time out of a ewe by Drinkstone Oh So Smart. She was snapped up by Davison and Sons, Hexham, Northumberland.

Then came a 1,900gns bid for the Goldies Supreme gimmer NTA1300719. She sold in lamb with twins by Allanfauld Rockafella. Buyer was J and C Hastings, Holywood, Dumfriesshire.

Leading the production sale of Messrs GH and GG Wilkinson’s Arkle and Edenvalley flocks at 1,900gns was the gimmer Eden Valley YGW130164 sired by Arkle Topper and out of a ewe by Curley Orlando. She sold carrying a single by Milnbank Vantastic and caught the eye of John Sutherland, Thurso, Caithness.

A small consignment from Robin and Caroline Orr’s Halbeath flock also topped at 1,900gns for a gimmer by Teiglum Topper and out of a Halbeath Maverick sired ewe. She sold carry twins by Hartside Volt to James Winter, Appleby-in-Westmorland, Cumbria.

Averages: 43 Alwent gimmers, £1,232.41; 38 Arkle gimmers, £452.33; five Halbeath gimmers, £1,029; and one Halbeath recipient, £1,785.
