It was an all ladies day in the commercial championship.

Winning the commercial championship was Jack and Stephen Smyth, Newtownstewart, Co. Tyrone, with their Limousin x heifer. Born in January 2013 she is sired by a Tonka son and out of a Limousin x cow, and was bought privately by the father and son team. Tipping the scales at 648kg she won the NI Calf Show in January and will now go on to compete at a few local shows.

In reserve was Dermot Small’s August 2013 born Khaleesi, from Kilkeel, Co. Down. Bred by James Alexander she is sired by Swarland Eddie and is out of a British Blue x cow.  Exhibited by Stephanie Dick, of Ronick Limousins Stirling, it was the first outing for Khaleesi, who will now go on to contest the title at Smithfield.

Commenting on his placing Welsh judge Tecwyn Jones said: “The champion heifer has good style and a tremendous top line and width.

“I haven’t seen a heifer with so much top on her before. On the day she’s an easy winner.”
