The flooding in Cumbria has hit services being offered by the Rural Payments Agency – particularly the work of the British Cattle Movement Service.

The Rural Payments Agency is warning livestock farmers that it can only offer a reduced service for BCMS at present.

As a result of the severe flooding in Cumbria the Workington site will be completely closed today (Monday, 23 November).

An RPA statement said: “Please accept our apologies if you are unable to contact us. If you have a concern about animal welfare can you please contact your local animal health office.

“We are offering an answer service for all calls to BCMS and, as soon as normal service resumes, we will call people back to answer queries but this is not likely to be until next week.

“If you have already sent us notifications, we have plans to deal with these and there is no need to contact us.

CTS online is the best way of sending us information at the moment.”

The RPA says that farmers who need to contact the agency to agree RLR maps can still telephone.

Farmers can call Freephone on 08000 743 939 and give their Single Business Identifier. The lines will be open seven days a week, 24 hours a day

Alternatively, producers can send a text message to agree their maps by texting their Single Business Identifier to 07786 205 618. (Texts will be charged at your standard rate).
