Belted Galloways sell to 2,050gns at Spring Sale

An entry of 85 met good trade selling to a high of 2,050gns at the Belted Galloway Cattle Society’s Annual Spring Show and Sale, in Worcester.

 

Top call of the day went to Howemill Shimmer, a served heifer from Sir Martin Arbib. PD’d in calf to Howemill See The Sky, she had previously taken the Reserve Championship in the earlier show.  Stiff competition took her to 2,050gns, which sees her head to Tangent Estates, Malmesbury. Sir Arbib also took the top price Cow with Howemill Bluebell with her September born male calf at foot. She sold for 1,300gns to J Langley, Redruth, Cornwall.

 

Once again Sir Arbib topped the bulling heifers section with Howemill Delight at 950gns, which sold to J. Clowes, Morley, Derbyshire. This one was closely followed by a heifer from Dr TR O’Conor. Saltway Hulda, a Southfield Double O Seven daughter, made 850gns to MJ Bull, Ringwood, Hampshire.

 

The pre-sale show saw Messrs Booth and Bell’s two-year-old Bull, Crackley Marvel take the male and overall championship before going on to sell for 1,580gns to Mr N Box, Ledbury.

Bulls were in demand at the sale with Hillfield Expo a two-year-old bull from Mrs Y Long, Dereham, Norfolk, selling at 1,900gns to the National Trust, Woolbeding Estate, West Sussex.  GM and DAR Finch travelled from Haverfordwest with their six-year-old bull Crossfield Rufus, who sold to Melsop Farming, Scoulton, Norwich for 1,800gns.
