Border and Lakeland Holstein sale produces 2,900gns top bid

Prices peaked at 2,900gns at the Border and Lakeland Holstein club sale at Borderway, Carlisle last week (19 Feb).

 

Sale leader was the May 2011 born reserve champion Boclair Triumphant Joan 4 from J Brewster, Bearsden, Glasgow. Sired by Boclair Triumphant she is out of the Mesland Duplex daughter Boclair Duplex Joan, classified VG85. Her dam is bred from five generations of very good and excellent classified cows and gave 12,297kg in her last 305-day lactation. She was purchased by an undisclosed buyer.

 

Next best at 2,700gns was Boclair Saratoga Elegance, from the same vendor. Sired by Smiddiehill Saratoga she is out of Boclair Planet Elegance GP82 and is a full sister to Budjon-JK Linjet Eileen Ex96 who received honorable mention at the World Dairy Expo 2004. She was bought by JT and EM Marrs and Son, Carlisle, Cumbria, having last calved in January.

 

BG Yate’s overall champion and first prize junior heifer in milk Logan Atwood Roxy, from Castle Douglas, sold for 2,600gns to Crossfell House Farm, Penrith, Cumbria.

Sired by MGW Atwood she is out of the Picston Shottle daughter Logan Shottle Roxy 4, classified VG85 as a two-year-old, who gave 11,091kg in her second lactation.

 

Two lots made 2,400gns. First of these was another Boclair consignment sired by Gen-I-Beq Shotgun. She sold to a private bidder.

 

Next at this money was Wormanby Final Cut Lucy from H,M and D Hodgson, Burgh by Sands, Carlisle. Sired by Gilette Final Cut she sold to A Waddell and Son, Shotts, Lanarkshire.
