British Blue females underway in Carlisle

The judging of British Blue feamles has started at Borderway Mart and first up taking a red rosette (although there was only one in the class) was K Preston with the black Ballyhossett Clover (lot 218), an ET-bred November 2007-born hiefer by Oxcroft Lionheart out of Knockagh Whoppee.

Winning the next class wasRichard Mowbray with Droit Deon (lot 231), a Tamhorn sumo daugher out of the Visconti homebred female Droit Abbey, standing second was Norbreck Genetics with Norbreck Delilah (lot 227), a Bringlee Volkawagon daughter out of Cowden Babycham.

Class 23, senior maiden heifers, was won by Roly Carr with Homilton Dovecote (lot 236). This June 2008-born female is a daughter of Blue Stone volcano out of the Visconti daughter Ruaig Vodka. This black heifer is a fourth generation natural calved female on the dam side. Standing second to her was HW Timm with the irish bred heifer Castlecuff Cloadgh (lot 239) this one is by Totem Du Tilleul out of Castlecuff Yvonne. 

Leading the way in the next class was Richard Mowbray with his black heifer by Dafydd D’Ochain, Droit Davina (lot 243). Born September 2008, this one is out of Woodview Alexis. she has a carcass yield of 21 and carcass weight of 24. Second went to the raine family with Bluegrass Deidre (lot 247) and ET bred heifer by Harley Du Chateau Lebrum out of the Dafydd daughter Bluegrass Beauty.

The first of the junior maiden heifer classes was won by A and D Wilkinson, with Springfield Eloise (lot 260). By Empire D’Ochain, this one is out of the Dafydd daughter Springfield Amy. Second went to M Barnes with Rosslyn Elizabeth’s Girl (lot 261), a Gitan daughter out of Woodview Amelia.

The second junior class was headed by the Raine family again with Bluegrass Electra (lot 270), a bringlee Blackstar daughter out of the great Visconti daughter Ridge Dean Uptown Girl (I wouldn’t mind betting this one could make a fair bit tomorrow). Standing second was the Redhead and Watson partnership with (lot 267) Tweeddale Elegant, a March 2009-born Escadron De Tohogne daughter out of Clarebrand Bertha.

Heading up class 27 was the Redhead and Watson partnership with Tweeddale Eyecandy (lot 285), by Serum D’Anloy, she is out of the Baron daughter Broomfield Violet, while second prize went to Graham Jones with his Sjaka Zoeloe Van Zwaanhof daughter, Graymar Emerald (lot 281), who is out of Cefn Rhos Annabella.

The last of the female classes was won by Andrew Craig with the September 2006-born cow Woodview Bertha, a Blak Du Baty daughter (lot 296) out of Woodview Trixie, one of the best female lines in the herd. This one took the NI Blue Cattle Club claf show championship on her only other outing. Second to her was Kevin Watret with Lukeroyal Wonderful (lot 294). bred by Mel and Diane lucas, this one is by Serum out of Lukeroyal Tiara.
