After many re-schedules and disappointments due to foot-and-mouth and bluetongue movement restrictions, the British Blue Cattle Society finally held a sale at Carlisle last week in conjunction with the Border Club autumn show and sale. And although there was a much smaller offering available prices managed to peal at 6500gns.
Top price on the day went to the much sought after second prize bull Droit Archie from Irish breeder Richard Mowbray, Co Tyrone. A December 2005 son of Hazelwood Freshman and out of an Annanwater dam by Visconti, he now heads to Anglesey-based J Lewis and Son.
The second highest price of the day went to an additional entry from R W and L A Jones. Hazelwood Barnabas, a February 2006 son of Hazelwood Upton, Barnabas also took the reserve male championship under judge Andy Ryder from the Annanwater herd, Moffat. He now joins the Clarebrand herd of Messrs W C McMiken, Castle Douglas.
An AI son of the fashionable Daffyd D’Ochain was next in the price ratings. Dermot Small’s Ridge Dean Bronson, bred by Michele Wilde, sold for 5800gns. Out of a dam by one of Mrs Wilde’s most successful female lines Ridge Dean Jessie, Bronson was successfully purchased by H Ridley, Wigton.
Having taken the reserve overall championship for Messrs Whitely and Courts, Thirsk, Franks Arnie sold for 5500gns. A November 2005 son of Baron du Bois Bauloye, he now joins G and J H Tomlinson and Son, Co Durham.
Leading female trade at 3600gns was Mel and Diane Lucas’ Lukeroyal Bimbo, a 10 month old daughter of Twyning Ash Vaughan and out of Lukeroyal Valentine. This stylish black heifer sold to A Williams, Llandloes.
The second highest female bid of the day came from G W and K Wallbank, Lancaster, who gave 3500gns for the reserve female champion. From Kevin Watret, Solway View Alexandra is a two year old heifer by Danseur D’Embise and out of a top Annanwater brood cow.
