Builth Wells sale of nearly 10,300 Welsh Mule yearling ewes and lambs drew large crowds and met with very buoyant trade last Friday (12 September).
The top yearling ewe price of £215 a head was for a pen of 30 ewes from Messrs H and E Powell, Llwyngwilym. Buyer was Mr G Price, Parcyderi, Llanilar, Aberystwyth. Trade for the 2,951 yearling ewes was up £22.91 on last year to average £146.79.
The 7,312 ewe lambs were also in much demand and a joint top price of £156 a head was received by I and W Jones, Upper Rheol, selling the champion pen of 20 ewe lambs to the judges Alun and William Jones, Llys Helyg, Llanerfyl and Messrs RG and BM Jones and Son, Tymawr, selling the second prize lambs to Messrs Lewis Farming, Nash Farm, Cleobury Mortimer. Trade averaged £99.17, up £3.83 on last year. Tupping lambs sold generally from £95 to £130 with running lambs £75 to £90.
