Next week’s offering of Charolais at Carlisle may not be the largest gathering of the breed this year, but with 77 bulls and 51 females on offer there’s no doubting the quality of some of the lots on offer.

Flicking through the catalogue earlier several entries caught my eye among the bulls on offer, the first of which is GretnaHouse Dick from Alistair Houston. He’s a Doonally New son out of Mortimers Foxy and is full brother to 8000gns bull Gretnahouse Umpire. And the next lot Alsnow Decision from Alan Lawson is also of interest, combining Blelack breeding on both sides of his pedigree. He’s by Blelack Roger, sire of bulls to 10,000gns and out of Blelack Maxine, dam of 17,000gns bull Alsnow Almighty.

Anyone looking for a sire with figures will be drawn to Whitecliffe Designerbull, a Mowbraypark Paramount son with a terminal sire index of 46 and a self replacing index of 48. He’s out of Whitecliffe Union, a daughter of the now legendary Dingle Hoffmeister.

And Hamish Goldie has another with good figures in the form of Goldies Dolphin, a son of homebred sire Goldies Ambassador. He’s out of Goldies Anita, a Blelack Rustic daughter and has a TSI of 38 and an SRI of 40.

Elsewhere my eye is drawn to Swalesmoor Domino, an Ellerton Alberto and out of Swalesmoor April which was junior female champion at the Highland in 2006. He has figures of 35 and 41 respectively.

This is of course only a very brief selection of the bulls on offer and I’m bound to have missed something in the catalogue, so feel free to add to the list….
