Cheviot shearlings top £190/head at Longtown
Cheviot Mule Shearling topped topped at £190 at Longtown mart this week (26 August), with trade rising by almost £25 on the year.
The 1,385 Cheviot Mule shearlings met the best trade of the day, with demand far outweighing supply. The sale topped at £190 for a consignment from GB Milroy, Mains of Machermore, Newton Stewart. Overall trade averaged £153.50 – up a massive £24.65 on the year.
Trade for North Cheviot Mule ewe lambs was back slightly on the year, with two pens sharing the top price of £136/head.
These both came from Messrs King, Gospel Hall, closely followed by a pen at £134 from Kingside and Swinside.
Overall 2,796 ewe lambs averaged £98.84 a head – down £3.36, despite the fact more was sold on the day.
A much smaller show of 568 Hill Cheviot Mule ewe lambs sold to a top of £98 from Terrona and averaged £84.90 – up £11.81 on the year.
Meanwhile an entry of 787 Cheviot Mule cross ewe lambs sold to a top of £127 for Texel x from Messrs Dun, Gilston.
