Christmas spending spree at Leek’s pedigree show

A tremendous show of cattle at Leek’s first Pedigree Christmas Show and Sale saw the market record broken again at £2850 with the top 15 averaging £2393 and the entire entry average being £1993.

Judge for the day, Stuart Heath, had a difficult job but eventually picked out an All-Nure Bellwood Larky heifer from the Harley Grange herd of Mark and Lynne Hodgkinson as his Champion.  A frenzy of bidding eventually stopped at £2640 with the heifer travelling to local purchaser John Holdcroft of Sandbach.

However, it was a Lystel Lorenzo daughter from John Allen, Tutbury that topped the day, breaking all previous known records at £2850.  Boasting an 85 point dam which had given 12,947kg as a heifer, she was sold giving 34kg and was clinched by Phillip Smith, Tutbury.

A heifer from Messrs Gadsby, Yarlet reached £2620 by Cottonhall Lucky Charm she was sold giving 33kg and went to Mr M Hollingsworth of Swythamley.

Reserve Champion went to a red and white second calver shown by Ian Lemon, Alkmonton by Morwick Sand Ranyer, she had given 7024kg as a heifer, fresh with her second and giving over 30kg she went to T Wilson, Fradswell.

An amazing trade throughout the day saw the top 15 animals average £2393 and the entire pedigree entry average £7 short of £2000 at £1,993.
