Clyde and Central YFC calves sell to £1400

Overwintered calves from members of the Clyde and central YFC sold to a top price of £1400 at Caledonian Marts yesterday, with the top price paid for the pre-sale champion, a 440kg Limousin cross heifer from Craig Malone, Corbiewood, Stirling. Bought at Oban mart weighing 300kg from Douglas McDonald, she sold to George McCulloch, Stirling.

CC Champ Calf.jpgAlso at this money was the reserve champion, a British Blue cross heifer out of a Limousin cross cow from John Owen, Muirpark, Stirling. This one was bred by R F Torrence, Mulindray, Islay and was bought for £800 at the Royal Highland Winter Fair. Weighing 385kg on the day she sold to Robert Wetherspoon.

CC Res Champ.jpgAnd making £1150 was the male champion and best beast of the opposite sex to the champion. This one was a 535kg steer from John MacGregor, Allanfauld. He was bred by Dunasherry, Tabert, Argyll, and was bought from UA Stirling in October.

Average; 26 sold, heifers levelled at £971.66, steers averaged £975.71 (Caledonian Marts).
