Consultation opens on the British Wool Marketing Board

DEFRA has announced a review of the British Wool Marketing Board.

The review will look at both the structure and operation of the board, to see whether any changes are needed.

Frank Langrish, chairman of the BWMB, said the review was appropriate and timely.

“We have regular meetings with our stakeholders – producers, wool merchants and the textile industry. These meetings help us determine the way the board operates.

“Of course, times change and this review gives the board and its stakeholders the opportunity to consider whether any modifications are necessary.”

The BWMB is the largest producer organisation in Britain. Last season, it handled 38.5m kg of fleece wool from about 60,000 registered farmers.

Farmers who wish to respond to the British Wool Marketing Board consultation letter, need to do so by 23 October.
