Continued good trade for store lambs

The show and sale of store lambs at Ludlow market attracted a good entry of feeding lambs with plenty of buyers in attendance and prices up. Store lambs sold up to ÂŁ79 with all of the lambs in the yard averaging ÂŁ65. Ewe lambs also sold well topping at ÂŁ96 for some Texel lambs with the best Suffolks selling to ÂŁ80 a head. All of the ewe lambs averaged ÂŁ72.50.

Store prices were also holding firm at Bakewell market for longer keep and hill varieties. Auctioneers at Bakewell reported a shift in emphasis with North rather than West Wales being the most popular address and also more buyers appearing from the midland counties where keep has previously been in very short supply.

Of the 6,500 lambs forward the top price was ÂŁ77 for a Texel from A Wood, Alsop en le Dale.
