Steve Gibbons had done and dusted in the Countryside Live sheep lines for today and with some strong classes in front of him he wasted no time picking out his winners.

Taking first place in the class for Continental breed sired lambs with a combined weight of less than 70kg were a 68kg pair of Beltex crosses from Messrs A M and H V Brown. The Browns repeated their success in a further three classes, taking the honours in the 71-84kg weight range for Continental sired lambs with a pair of 78kg Beltex crosses and also the red ticket in the first half of the class for lambs weighing 85-90kg with an 85kg pair of Beltex.

Their final success of the day came in the last Continental sired class with their 91kg pair of Beltex crosses picking up the title in the 91kg and over category.

In the heavier end of the 85-90kg class Messrs A C and S A Hutchinson took first place with their 88kg Beltex crosses.

In the Horned lambs class top place went to K R Flintoft with a pair of Scotch Blackface which tipped the scales at 86kg.

As in the beef classes the sheep championships take place tomorrow, so check back then for more results and pictures from the event. But from the list of results above it’s a fair shout to say Messrs Brown might just sneak it!!
