Cracking calf trade sees prices top £472 at Gisburn

Gisburn Auction Marts, sale of rearing calves last Thursday saw 224 rearing calves forward. Topping the trade was J Shuttleworth and Son, Rylstone, Skipton with three Simmental bulls at £472, £462 and £458.

James Wellock, Eshton, Skipton headed the British Blues with a bull calf at £452, closely followed by a trio from Geoff Blezard, Hothersall, Longridge at £448, £445 and £440.

 

Photo.jpgA total of 20 bull calves made in excess of £400 and 76 calves of all breed and both sexes achieved sale prices in excess of £300.

Following the sale of calves was the fortnightly sale of stirks and young stores, with 64 forward. Top price of the day was £655 for a British Blue from WG Gill and Sons, Shelf, Halifax closely followed by John Bosworth, Bacup with a Bazadaise bull at £650. Black and White stirks sold to £370 and average £312.
