It was double honours for commercial dairy producer Robert Crisp, Calton at the Craven Dairy Show taking the champion and reserve title as well as the top price with a freshly calved Holstein Friesian heifer.
Leading the days honours was the first prize newly calven Holstein Friesian heifer, sired by Garrison.
Twelve days calved and giving six gallons, she sold for a show-topping £2,300 to Burnley’s AP Townsend.
Mr Crisp’s reserve champion heifer was by the same sire and giving five gallons after calving a week prior to the show. She fell for £1,950 to Ian Wellock, Eshton, with the same vendor also selling a third newly calven heifer for £1,820 to Paul Bolland, Airton.
The third prize newly calven heifer from the Lawson family, who run the Newbirks pedigree Holstein herd at Mill Farm, Arthington, sold for £2,150 to Stephen Jeanes, Glusburn. They also sold a second calver by a Picston Shottle son giving 38 litres, for £2,050 to Mark Goodall, Bradford
