Cull ewe values have pushed higher still this week with prices at Carlisle on Monday reaching £134.50 for Suffolk ewes from Cardew Hall Farm, while Rouge De L’Ouest ewes from Messrs Whiteford, Brampton, made £130 at the same venue.

But it’s not just terminal sire breeds which are the pick of the trade with Blackface culls making up to £89.50 and Bluefaced Leicesters topping at £104.50.

However, prices were slightly easier at Hexham where a top price of £104.50 was achieved for Texel cross ewes and heavy ewes averaged £88.44. Light ewes hit a top call of £70 for Cheviots and levelled at £55.36
