Dairy cattle peak at £2,300 twice at Holsworthy

An outstanding entry of 125 dairy cattle saw a fantastic trade from start to finish with an overall top call being £2,300 achieved twice.

Joint sale leaders Whitsbury Melody Contrary 2 and Penheale Vanity 32 both saw some serious interest from prospective buyers before entering the sale ring with vendors Mark & Lyn Bray of Barnstaple.  Also having an exceptional day were the Jenkins family who made the 200 mile round trip from their farm in Helston, West Cornwall, where the pick of their line up reached £2,250 with others from the same farm at £2,200 and £2,100.  Like the heifers, the older cows saw plenty of interest with top award going to Steven Thorne of Umberleigh in north Devon reaching £2,120 on two occasions, both for second calvers.

Speaking after the sale principle dairy auctioneer for Kivells Ltd Mark Bromell said: “What a great day! Buyers were out in force and ready to spend on quality stock which resulted in 15 animals exceeding the £2,000 bracket with a massive overall average of £2,049 for the entire entry of 1st calving heifers.”
