Dairy farmers’ ‘Milk Must Have a Future’ video goes viral

Dairy farmers and their wives have clubbed together to create an upbeat video to raise awareness of industry issues.

The video, called “Milk Must Have a Future”, has notched up more than 13,000 hits since it was posted on YouTube a fortnight ago.

Shot in just one day at Milton Farm, a dairy farm in Kirkcudbright, in south-west Scotland, the video warns of a future without dairy.

The Farmers Wives Choir and Farmers Choir created the video to tell the public about the importance of a having a dairy industry in this country.

Although punishing milk price cuts over the past 12 months have rocked dairy farmers, the video is keen to send out positive messages about dairying despite the current gloom in the industry.

The dairy ditty is recorded to the tune of rock group Creedance Clearwater Revival’s song Proud Mary.

It includes the lyrics: “Working on the farm every night and day / I have never lost any faith in what I am doing / Now I’m worrying about the way things are moving.”

The choir highlights that milk is natural, filled with lots of goodness, wholesome, fresh and nutritious. But in order to carry on producing it dairy farmers “need a fair price”.

Both the Farmers’ Wives Choir and Farmers Choir performed at last week’s Royal Highland Show.
