Dairy trade flying at Sedgemoor with 30 lots over 2,000gns

The demand for dairy cattle seems set to continue if yesterday’s sale at Sedgemoor Auction Centre is anything to go by.
Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt reported an “excellent trade for fresh milk” with 30 lots selling for more than 2,000gns and a top price of 2,700gns achieved for a second calver.
Taking the top call on the day was Bettiscombe Kendall Welcome 111th from Roland and Simon Bugler.  This second calver was sold to JS Bird for his Bartonwood Herd, giving 42kg.
Falling not far behind at 2,450gns was the second calved Rookhaye Kendall Rosebud GP80 from Rookhaye Estate – their consignment of six cows and heifers averaged ÂŁ2,187.50.
Meanwhile David and Valerie Norman’s two year old calved heifer Ciderhouse Dictator Elisabeth 2nd sold for 2,400gns to N Herrod of Axminster and her 20 day old heifer calf that followed her through the ring made 560gns.
Other heifers sold to 2,350gns for a Pinkie from Bettiscombe and 2,250gns for Derek and Jeremy Dennis’ Dinnaton Ken Degas Breeze out of the Ex90 dam.  Other vendors who broke the 2,000gns barrier were W Green & Son, RJ Goss & Son, RK & SG Miller & Sons, Andy Neill Farm Services, TA & AJ Reed and RL & ME Trott. 
In-calf heifers sold to 1,800gns for Wilcot Nansen Sunset which is bred from an 11,000kg VG85 dam from Andy Neill Farm Services; his others sold for 1,650gns and 1,600gns.  Other vendors to 1,580gns were ER Cutler from Fareham, Hants and twice for commercial heifers from RJ Jeanes & Son. 
Recently served heifers from C Macpherson sold to 1,220gns for Sladebottom Wiggins Hettie by their homebred bull.  Bulling heifers from DM & P Coombes sold for 1,220gns for a Ladys-Manor Augusta daughter.  December born heifer calves again from C Macpherson sold to 700gns for Sladebottom Design Salina by Regancrest Design.  
The day also brought about the first consignment for A & P Bradford who are dispersing their dairy herd as they calve.  Their second calved cow by Hector giving 50kg sold for 2,350gns with a second Hector daughter at 2,200gns. 
On the day the 130 head forward from cows to heifer calves averaged ÂŁ1,542.  
38 different purchasers from Cornwall to Hereford generated the following excellent averages:-
