DFOB casualty sells herd at Skipton

One of the many casualties of the DFOB collapse sold their herd yesterday, with Chris and Judith Wellock trading their 35 Holsteins at Skipton.

Having milked cows on the farm for more than 40 years Mr Wellock had been reluctant to quit dairying, but said he had to bite the bullet frollowing the collapse of DFOB. “At 10p a litre I simply couldn’t afford to continue. We will now concentrate on beef and sheep production.”

Top prices included a fourth calver which made ÂŁ1360, a thrid calver at ÂŁ1500, a second calver at ÂŁ1760 and a heifer at ÂŁ1120. In calf cows topped at ÂŁ1380 for a cow due in October. (Craven Cattle Marts)
