Vendors Messrs Pike and Son from Swanage, Dorset, enjoyed a good trade for the dispersal of their Holstein herd this week with bidding reaching 1580gns to help lift the average for 67 cows £1270.

 

Hedley Durston, Bridgwater, paid the top price for a second calver by Markwell Nobel and also gave 1500gns for a third calver by the British Friesian sire Catlane Casino 2. Ralph Newman, Dorchester, also gave 1500gns for a second calver and Mr Reed, Honiton paid 1500gns for a fresh first calver by the Markwell sire. A 2005-bred cow by Cauldcoats Thor made 1550gns to P Cook, Shaftesbury.

 

Averages: 67 cows £1270; seven in-calf heifers £1407; 12 bulling heifers £1008 and eight stirk heifers £429. (Symonds and Sampson).
