Charolais bulls met a solid demand from commercial producers selling to a top of 5200gns at Dungannon last Friday at the breed’s NI Club spring show and sale.

Sale topper at 5200gns was the senior male and overall champion, Blossom Eoghan a rising Doonally New son out of a Knockanbawn dam by Enfield Plexus. Consigned by L Richardson and Sons, Maguiresbridge, Fermanagh, he was knocked down sold to G Wallace, Enniskillen.Dungannon11BlossomEoghan.jpgThe day’s second top call of 4500gns was paid by K Farrell, Filemiletown for Corryglass Excel, a 16 month old first prize winner from Trevor Phair, Letterbreen, Enniskillen. Excel was by Pirate and out of a homebred dam going back to Doonally New.Dungannon11Corryglass Excel.jpgThe Richardsons were in the money again at 4200gns when they sold their first class prize winner, Hillviewfarm Egbert to S and M Black, Carnlough. Sired by Allanfauld Vagabond, this one is out of a Coolnaslee cow going back to Derrygiff Mills.

Earlier on Trevor Phair collected the intermediate championship with Brogher Echo, a bull with a TSI of +34 and an SRI +37. He sold for 4200gns to A Wilson, Ballymena. This 18 month old was by Pirate and out of Brogher bred cow by Doonally New.

Two lots sold for 4000gns each. First to go was Lisnadill Egbert, a rising two year old from G C King, Lisnadill, Armagh, which was knocked down to to L Buchanan, Strabane. A Nelson son, he was out of a Mullagh bred cow by Brampton Justwilliam.

John McGrath, Dromore, Omagh offered the second 4000gns entry, Drumconnis Edward which went to R Watters, Stewartstown. This 19 month old was by 25,000gns sire Goldies Unbeatable and out of a homebred cow by Roundshill Taurus.

A pair then shared the next best call of 3800gns too. First to make this was Hillviewfarm Evis from the Richardsons. This one is by Killadeas Jack and sold to W McCloskey, Dungiven.

Brantry, Dungannon based breeder, M McVeigh then sold Gort Eoin for the same money to M McLaughlin, Cushendall. Sired by Fieldview Budd, he was out of a Roxtown bred dam by Doonally New.

The day’s supreme female champion went to Brownhill Ellen, a Shaen Topper daughter out of a homebred dam going back to Simpsons Gregg. Bred and exhibited by the Devine Brothers, Strabane, Tyrone, she sold to E Johnston, Cookstown for 3500gns.
