The British Limousin Cattle Society’s Autumn Limousin Show & Sale held at Dungannon on Thursday 11th November 2010 realised a firm trade with bulls selling to 4200gns and females to 2800gns. The trade was driven by local commercial producers, but the bidding also saw bulls selling into Scotland and England and a number of heifers heading to the Republic of Ireland.
Highest price of the day went to Ian Barr, Kells, Ballymena for his bull Homeland Ed who is a June 2009 born bull by Grahams Cavalier, a Samy son, and out of the dam Normande Velvet. Homeland Ed displayed length and size from good female milk lines and was purchased for 4200gns by W and J Corrie, Drumhilla Farms, Newtownards for their noted commercial beef and butcher’s enterprise.Second top price of 4000gns went to the Overall Supreme Champion, Male Champion and Junior Male Champion bull, Rathconville Eduardo, bred and exhibited by Paul Brown from Loughgilly, Co Armagh. Again June born, this bull was sired by the Rocky son, Guards Boomer, purchased at Carlisle in February 2008 for 22,000gns and who was crowned Supreme Limousin Champion at Balmoral in 2009. In the pre-sale show, Rathconville Eduardo had been put up as Champion by Judge Eric Norman who runs the Norman Herd at Little Orton, Carlisle, Cumbria. The purchaser was an undisclosed buyer from England.The intermediate bull Newhillfarm Eoin, from Michael McPolin, 146 Castlewellan Road, Cabra, Newry, Co Down, realised the sale’s third top price when making 3400gns. An eighteen-month-old Ionesco son with pedigree breeding lines that included Bapton Javelin and Greensons Gigolo on the dam’s side, he sold to D A Wright of Caledon, Co Tyrone.
Three bulls made 3000gns apiece. First of these was the class winner Fedneyhouse Earl from TJ Adams, Fedney House, Banbridge, Co Down. April 2009 born this bull is fully French in breeding being sired by the noted Ulm and out of Napolie. The purchaser when the hammer fell was P McKeag, Millisle, Newtownards.
Erne Email, exhibited by R Crawford, Rathkeeland, Maguiresbridge, Co Fermanagh, sold for 3000gns to R Hazley, Newry. Sired by the noted Sauvignon, Erne Email is out of the Mas Du Clo sired Cookstown Vivienne.
Finally at 3000gns was Clydevalley Emperor, the Reserve Senior Male Champion bred by R S Clyde, Templepatrick, Ballyclare, Co Antrim. This January 2009 born bull is by the Broadmeadows Cannon son Sarkley Vacation and is out of the Ronick Sphere daughter, Clydevalley Vicky. Sapping up this bull was A Clyde, Niblock Rd, Antrim.
In the female section, the top priced heifer was the Reserve Female Champion, Rahoney Ellen, bred by Messrs H & D McFarland, 200 Tonnagh Road, Trillick, Co Tyrone. Carrying a Beef Value of LM+30, Rahonely Ellen is by the Mas Du Clo sired Drummin Beau and is out of Rahoney Alison. March 2009 born, she realised 2800gns when knocked down to J Oliver of Ballycrum, Limavady.
Second priced heifer on the day was Scotchtown Esther bred by Messrs L & R Allison, 288 Seacoast Road, Limavady, Co Derry. This March 2009 Wilodge Vantastic daughter, sporting a Beef Value LM+30, out of the Ronick Iceman sired Scotchtown Alex, sold for 2100gns to G Davis, Castlerock, Ballinalee.
