The number of farmers reporting cattle movements electronically has hit a record high of 95%, according to the latest figures from the Rural Payments Agency.
Livestock producers are now using the online and self-service phone line to record movements in preference to traditional paper-based reporting.
The RPA’s Cattle Movement Service’s online system – CTS Online – and the CTS self-service phone line has also seen an increase in use, with 89% of births and 72% of deaths reported electronically in December 2012.
The agency is now encouraging farmers to apply for the Single Payment Scheme online this year. Justin Chamberlain, RPA customer director, said: “Ultimately, using SPS Online affords you more time to spend on your business because it helps you get it right first time.
“You get an instant receipt, which gives you peace of mind that your application has been received and passed the initial checks. All your farm’s details are securely saved for next year, and you can track your claim right until payment.”
