Estate sells pig herd

FARMING ESTATE Elveden farms in Suffolk is selling its entire pig herd after 40 years, the BBC reports.

The estate once had 2,000 sows, but now they are selling the remaining herd.

Nine people will be made redundant as a result of the move.

The Elveden Estate encompasses nearly 22,500 acres of forest, heath and farmland in the Breckland area.

Pig manager John Green, who spent 17 year building up the herd, said the sale came after years of decline in the British pig industry and cheap imports.
