This year is proving to be one of the most difficult to manage in terms of autumn infertility. This is because of the pigs’ natural reluctance not to breed in the autumn and the female herd’s lack of interest in the opposite sex. The girls are producing 13.8 piglets born alive, but the number actually farrowing is consistently below target levels.
