Fort Dodge awarded licence for BTV 8 vaccine

Fort Dodge has been awarded an EU licence for its Zulvac 8 bluetongue vaccines.

The company is only the second organisation to gain EU approval for its BTV 8 vaccines which include Zulvac 8 Bovis for cattle and Zulvac 8 Ovis for sheep.

Commenting on the award of the EU licence, Fort Dodge’s Marc Snacken said it was heartening to see some national governments reaffirming their commitment to vaccination as the most effective way of controlling the disease.

“The strong focus on vaccination against bluetongue during 2009 contributed to a significant reduction in cases of the disease, providing a welcome boost to the livestock industry.

“We’re delighted to have received an EU licence for Zulvac 8 vaccines – it’s recognition of our continuing efforts to provide products and services to help control bluetongue,” he said.

The products are already in use in a number of European countries including the UK, Belgium, France and Germany.
