The dispersal sale of the Gomer Hereford herd at Hereford market last weekend (20 September) on behalf of Tim and Alice Amery and family, Llandeilo, Carmarthen, peaked at 4,300gns.
Sale leader was the four-and-a-half-year-old cow Gomer Precious Pansy F30, who sold with her five-month-old heifer calf, sire by the stockbull Gomer Gladstone G67, at foot to Leslie Jackson, Sparkwood Herefords, Hertfordshire.
Pansy is a daughter of the successful bull Mara Chieftain and sold PD’d in calf to Border Burlington J17. She has a TSI of +22 and an SRI of +26.
Also heading home with Mrs Jackson at 3,400gns was the seven-year-old Border Brit Dom daughter Gomer Eve E12 and her five-month-old heifer calf Gomer Diadem L82, sired by Gomer Gladstone G67.
Leading prices for in-calf heifers at 3,500gns was the two-year-old Gomer Curly, sired by Auckvale Gameplan 953G. She was purchased by AJ and EC Crooke, Olympus Herefords, Stratford-upon-Avon.
Next best at 3,000gns was another cow and calf outfit paid by S Chilman, Kinsham Herefords, Presteigne, Powys.
This was for the three-year-old first calver Gomer Kate H95 and her six-month-old bull calf Gomer Lester L75 at foot.
Leading heifer prices at 2,900gns was the six-month-old Gomer Marina L77 sired by Phocle Bonanza. Buyer was David Jones, Phocle Herefords, Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire.
She was closely followed by the heifer Gomer Precious Pansy J21, sired by Haven Ernest and due in calf to Gomer Gladstone. Buyer at 2,800gns was M Sealey, Barrow Wood Herefords, Cheddar, Somerset.
The only two bulling heifers in the Sale, both 12 months of age, Gomer Beauty L66 and Gomer Diadem L65, sold for 1,850gns and 1,800gns, respectively, to Byron Head, Barnt Green Herefords, Barnt Green, Birmingham.
Meanwhile young bulls topped at 1,900gns for the 17-month-old Gomer Kurt K57, sired by Gomer Gladstone G67 and out of Border Queen B80. Buyer was SF Moore, Nantypool Herefords, Llandysul, Ceredigion.
Averages: 27 cows (in calf or with a calf at foot), £2,808.55; five in calf heifers, £2,656.50; two bulling heifers, £1,916.25; one stock bull, £2,100; seven young bulls, £1,320; total of 42 lots, £2,483.
