The Hazelden Simmental dispersal, on behalf of Lochlea Pedigree Livestock, Kilmarnock, hit a high of 9,000gns when 175 lots went under the hammer at Stirling on the weekend (30 August).
It was one of the largest dispersal in the recent history of the breed.
The day’s highest bid went to the seven-year-old cow Hazelden Rachel. Sired by Whitemire King Kong she is out of the Milnafua Keystone daughter Glenturk Rachel. She sold with her Grangewood Brandon sired bull calf at foot to Neil Shand, for his Cairnorrie herd, Methlick.
Next best at 8,200gns was the seven-yea-old Hazelden Carina 1st, sired by Sterling Flint and out of Skerrington Carina. She was National Show champion in 2010 and sold in calf to Skerrington Dynasty. She was the pick of R and C Simmers, Wester Pettmarcus, Peterhead.
Messrs McLaren, Dalgill, paid 4,800gns for the Omorga Volvo daughter Hazelden Judy 10th, born in March 2010.
Pitgrave Farms, Elgin, paid 4,600gns for Hazelden Diamond 2nd. Born in April 2009 she is sired by Kilbride Farm Tweed and is out of a homebred dam by Corrick Kentucky Kid. She sold with her heifer calf by Annick Claymore 11 at foot.
Elgin’s Iain Green paid 4,500gns for the four-year-old Hazelden Juliet, by Hockenhull Red Rum for his Corskie herd.
A cow and calf outfit made the combined price of 7,800gns when selling to Gavin Brown, Springfield.
First and selling for 4,200gns was Hazelden Jingle 7th, sired by Skerrington Regent. She was followed by her Grangewood Brandon 10 sired heifer calf Hazelden Jingle at 3,600gns.
Topping the youngstock section was Hazelden Rachel 4th, a promising yearling heifer by Delger Avenger 09. She sold to Jim and Patricia Goldie for 3,400gns.
Stock bulls sold to a top of 6,000gns for Grangewood Brandon 10, sired by Omorga Volvo and born in October 2010. He was purchased by Jim McLaren for his Dargill herd, Crieff.
