Lancaster’s January dairy sale saw 11 of the 43 cattle forward selling in excess of £2000, to average £1,832 for heifers and £1,956 for cows.

A fantastic selection of heifers were put before show judge Duncan Horsley of Penrith. His champion heifer Stardale Admiral Vaakje 2, from James Burrow was bred from four generations of VG/EX and sold giving 31 litres to a Messrs Smith for £3,000.

Shoreline Pagewire Tess from Messrs Woodhouse, Millom was tapped out as the reserve champion and went on to sell for £1,850 giving 35l also to Messrs Smith.

Top price cow, Saltoke Icefyre Violet 59 (VG85) from Richard and Ian Gorst, Bay Horse, sold yielding 45l for £2,000.

To close the sale, a bull from the Stardale herd, Stardale Vettel, a smart flashy sort, bred exceptionally well went on to sell to a final call of £1,720, before heading to pastures new in Lanarkshire.
