Hereford bulls make 4,000gns at Borderway Mart, Carlisle

Hereford bulls topped at 4,000gns, with seven selling to average £2,951.25, at Borderway Mart, Carlisle.

 

Leading trade for the breed was the second prize 18-month-old Baldinnie 1 Scotsman, from JA Cameron and Son, Kilconquhar, Leven. Sired by Solpoll 1 Dynamite and out of Baldinnie 1 Super Gal. He carries a TSI and SRI of +25 and +29. Buyer was John Smillie and Son, Dunlop, Kilmarnock.

 

Next best at 3,500gns was Romany 1 Kodak A84 K2 from JRB Wilson and Sons, Kelso, Roxburghshire. Sired by the Doonbiddie Hustler son Baybridge 1 Atlas he is out of the homebred dam Romany 1 Julia A41 E13 and carries an SRI and TSI of +37 and +31 respectively.

Buyer was K Lister and Sons, Skipton , North Yorkshire.

 

Taking a bid of 3,000gns was W and R Kemp and Sons with their 16-month-old male Auckvale Keystone, sired by the top Australian bull Mawarra Vice Admiral and out of Auckvale Beauty, who was female champion at the National Christmas Calf show.

Successful bidder was ES Storey and Sons, Ponteland, Newcastle Upon Tyne.

 

The male and supreme champion Panmure 1 Jimbo from JM Cant and Partners made 2,500gns when selling to D and J Coulson Livestock, Market Rasen, Lincolnshire.  Sired by Romany 1 Distiller he is out of a homebred dam by Solpoll 1 Brigadier. Jimbo won reserve overall at the Scottish National Show and senior champion at the National Poll Show.

 

In the female section the pre-sale supreme champion Baldinnie 1 Model 17th took the leading bid of 3,100gns. Sired by the Doonbiddie Hustler son Baldinnie 1 Orient she is out of a homebred dam. The hammer fell to John Torrance and Son, Hamilton, Lanarkshire.
