Korea buys UK pigs

PIG BREEDING company UPB Ltd has made its first shipment of stock to South Korea since trade restrictions were lifted on UK breeders.

A consignment of damline purebred Large White and Landrace boars and gilts left on Nov 4 to stock a new genetic programme set up by a former customer.

UPB, known in this country as Premier Genetics, beat off stiff competition from breeders in Canada and the US, despite its greater shipping and stock prices.

The deal followed on a seminar organised by the British Pig Association and its Korean counterpart KAIA , and a second shipment will follow in Dec.
