Leyburn spring spectacular calves sell to £3500

Saturday’s Spring Spectacular sale of show potential calves at Leyburn saw John Smith-Jackson, Haltwhistle, Northumberland, take the top two tickets and with them the top two prices as well.

Leading the sale was the heifer and overall champion, a Limousin cross, Red Velvet, from Mr Smith-Jackson, when she sold for £3500 to Phil and Sharon Sellers, Lincolnshire.Leyburn Champ.jpg

Second best was the reserve overal and steer champion, another Limousin cross, Rebus, from Mr Smith-Jackson. This one sold at £2300 to the day’s steer judge Andrew Dickinson, Derbyshire.Leyburn res champ copy.jpgThen making £2400 was the day’s best from the British Blue classes, a heifer from Garrowby Estate Farms, Broughton, which sold to Les Wilson, Nottinghamshire.Leyburn BB champ copy.jpgAnd following that at £2100 was a Limousin cross heifer from J W Dent and Son, Barnard Castle. She sold to B J Waind, Malton, North Yorkshire.Leyburn 2,100.jpgGarrowby Estates took £1660 for the reserve champion steer which sold to D Scarborough, Grantham and Bill and Maureen Orme then sold a British Blue heifer at £1500 to Alan Peck, Norfolk. Will and Gillian Sedgeley, Garsdale, took £1280 for a British Blue cross steer. At £1200 was a Limousin steer from Garrowby Estates, with a Limousin heifer from Stephen and Richard Priestley, Bradford, making £1000.
