Limousin bulls top 37,000gns at Carlisle spring show and sale

Limousin bulls hit a high of 37,000gns at the society’s spring show and sale at Carlisle on the weekend.

Leading trade was R and J Graham’s October 2012-born bull Grahams Humphrey from their farm in Bridge of Allan, Stirling. Sired by Baileys Elderado he is out of the Millington Vascular sired dam Grahams Coffee. Humphrey has a beef value of +31 within the top 25% of the breed and won first prize in his class in the pre-sale show. The successful bidder was Boden and Davies, Stockport, Cheshire.

Next best at 23,000gns was the reserve junior champion Fairywater Haig, from Andrew Ewing. Sired by the Wilodge Vantastic son Ironsidestone Diego he is out of the Mas Du Clo dam Pelletstown Catherine, and boasts a beef value within the top 10% of the breed at LM+38. Buyer was A and D Proctor, Morpeth, Northumberland.

A bid of 20,000gns was earned by John Evans’ Lowerffrydd Husainbolt, from Caersws, Powys. Sired by the Hatcliffe Vermount son Procters Cavalier he is out of Corridan Fizz. Buyer was RS Harker and Son, Kendal, Cumbria.

Then at 18,000gns was RM Hazard and Sons’ Mereside Hallmark, from their Mereside herd in Grantham, Lincolnshire.

Sired by the Objat son Dormeur he is out of the Vagabond dam Mereside Enabel and has figures within the breed’s top 10% for calving ease and beef value. Buyer was Gascoines Group, Southwell, Notts.

Just shy of this with a bid 17,000gns was Sandhills Herbie from J and HD Langcake, Bassenthwaite, Keswick.

Sired by the French Jacot son Rossignol he is out of the Ronick Hawk daughter Siddall Awny. Purchaser was GW Lee and Sons, Frosterley, Co Durham.
