Flying commercial trade met well bred and turned out bulls at Newark’s spring Limousin sale on Saturday (9 April) as 32 bulls levelled at £3,885.

Top money was achieved by local breeders D and R Gascoigne and Gascoignes Jennings which knocked down to E Layton, Leominster, the pick of 15 bulls making at least 4,000gns. This Dinmore Escort son is out of Bailea Fairylight, a Saloman daughter and boasts a beef value of +31.

Matching this was Gotham Josh, from M Davis, Sussex. This son of the 100,000gns Haltcliffe Vermount is out of Gotham Gorgeous and caught the eye of J Booth, Doncaster.

Next in the money at 5,500gns was Lissett Jaguar from J H Tennant, Bridlington, Yorkshire, selling to R W Trivett, Atherstone, Warwickshire. With a beef value of +33, Jaguar is by Homebyres Felboy and out of Cofluence Gigi, a Greenwell Charttopper daughter.

The Coachhouse herd of Heald and Co then saw its best result on the day with Coachhouse Jack hitting 4,800gns, a Rachels Ferrari son scoring a beef value of +50 catching the eye of Knapcroft Hall Farm, Leicestershire.

Four sires then made 4,500gns, two of which say the Heald family in the money for Coachhouse Jedward, a Mereside Daytona son, knocked down to the Furnival Family, Brookland, Romney Marsh. The Furnivals also snapped up Coachhouse Jorgen, out of Nenuphar daughter Coachhouse Cindy.

Also at 4,500gns was French-sired Ewdenvale Jamaica from S Wilde, Bradfield, Sheffield, claiming a beef value of +43. This Euphrate son is out of Ewdenvale Gina, a wildoge Tonka daughter and headed to the Ashworth family, Lydd.

Last at this money was Stocksbridge Jenson from J Cardwell, Askern, Doncaster, selling to RB Ingamells, Barkston, Grantham.

Auctioneer Paul Gentry said the right bulls were rewarded on the day by “cautious” buyers operating in a beef market under some pressure. There is still demand for sires that will produce calves with extra value as stores or prime cattle, he added.

Females

Heifer values values hit 4,500gns with Frogmore Jessica from J and C White Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire, leading a solid trade. Boasting a beef value of +35, this Irontone Fragrant daughter was knocked down to locals D and R Gascoigne, Southwell, Nottinghamshire.

Next at 3,600gns was Vantastic daughter Millstone Fabuleuse from J Oakes, Harriseahead, Staffordshire. This third calver sold with a bull calf at foot to C and J Creaser, Wilberfoss, York, and is out of French dam Themis St, a Nelombo daughter.

A sixth calver was then the first of two to make 3,500gns. Grange Debonaire from N Hollick, Priors Marston, Southam, knocked down to AH Booth, Aston, Sheffield.

Then embryo transfer-bred Brockhurst Ingrid caught the eye of Three Willows Farming, Dalbury Lees, Ashbourne. Born in September 2013, this Hafodlas Baled daughter is out of Wilodge Tonka.
