Heading up the North West Midlands and North Wales Limousin Club autumn show and sale at Welshpool on Saturday 25 November was the day’s reserve champion, Esmors Black Montgomery, which scooped the top bull price of 4,900gns. 

This 18-month-old black son of Knock Glencoe was shown by Esmor Evans, from Mold, Flintshire, and is out of the imported cow Gentille. He caught the eye of Messrs Cherry, Newtown, Powys.

Following at 4,500gns was the first of two bulls from Sarkley shown by Messrs Pennie, Montgomery, Powys. Sarkley Marlow, a March 2016-born son of the noted Lodge Hamlet, is out of the great Jen family at Sarkley. He won first prize in the pre-sale show and was knocked down to Messrs Powell of Newtown.

A further three bulls sold at 4,000gns, the first being Wilodge Marshall offered by the Wilodge Herd, Shifnal, Shropshire. He was purchased by WL Hamer, Montgomery.

Seisog Max from Tecwyn Jones, Nebo, Llanwrst sold to ST Jones, Aberystwyth.

The third, overall champion Sarkley Muskateer sold to G and A Leisure, Newtown. He is sired by Plumtree Fantastic and out of Sarkley Dusk, making him a full brother to Sarkley Leanne – the overall Limousin champion at the 2016 Welsh Winter Fair 2016.

Sarkley heifer sale

On the same day, the Sarkley herd sold a select numbers of heifers for sale. Leading trade was Sarkley Linzee, a Dinmore Goldeneye daughter bred from a Haltcliffe Banker cow, Sarkley Duralee. She sold for the day’s top price of 5,000gns and was purchased by Sean Drumsladdy, County Cavan, Ireland.

One of the younger heifers in the consignment, Sarkley Manella, secured the next leading price tag of 3,200gns. This Lodge Hamlet daughter is out of Glangwden Ianella whose pedigree goes back to the great cow Paluche. Manella also travels across the water for N Quinn of County Derry, Northern Ireland.
