One of the great things about my visits to Carlisle – and the distance from home isn’t one of them – is that I rarely come away without a new catalogue in hand for a forthcoming sale.
And so it proved last weekend when I had a number thrust into my hands, including the Limousin Red Ladies Derby catalogue which makes for interesting reading.
So, having found a couple of quiet minutes over the weekend here is my preview of the ones to watch. As always it is by no means an exhaustive list and its likely I’ll have missed something you’ve picked. But here goes with my selection…
First up, rightly or wrongly is the first animal in the catalogue, Kaprico Bramble. This is a Broadmeadows Tombola daughter out of Kaprico Tansy, a Hawk daughter out of a dam by Gigolo. She sells having been served to Vantastic.
A little later is Glangwden Coquette, a Haltcliffe Ullswater daughter out of a Soleil sired dam. She has a massive beef value of +40 and was second in her class at the Royal Welsh this summer.
Further through the book and likely to make some money, if only for her show record, is Millington Davina. This Mas Du CLo daughter is out of Brockhurst Option, a Ronick Matador daughter. She was Lim champion at the Royal this year and reserve interbreed too, causing some debate on these pages at the time.
And the Ridleys of Haltcliffe are also offering a run of females this time round, one my picks being Haltcliffe Dee. This Sympa daughter is out of Brontemoor Sue, a Haltcliffe Olympus daughter. She sells with a beef value of +31.
Best of the day from Paul Dawes is by my reckoning Dinmore Ditty. She’s by Craigatoke Apache, a 30,000gns buy in May 2007, and out of Kaprico Uppity, a Hawk daughter which is maternal sister to Kaprico Davelle, champion at Carlisle in October.
Peter Henshall has Ringway Daphne on offer, a Fieldson Alfy daughter out of Ringway Venetia, a Cloughhead Rocket daughter. She has previously been champion claf at the NWLCBA’s calf show.
My favourite of the catalogue is Dunnamore Davina – she’s pictured in the feature brochure and has a stunning body to her. She’s a Sauvignon daughter out of Ashmara Angelina and goes back to Gigolo. Definitely one to watch I’d say.
Brian Allen then offers Glenturk Dana, a Bridgeford Versace daughter out of Anside Sunny. she has a beef value of +26 and has Gigolo twice in her back lines. An embryo from her paternal granddam Bridgeford Saskia sold recently for 3100gns.
And Christine Williams and Paul Tippetts are offering some interesting lots from Wilodge, including Wilodge Davina,a Tanko daughter out of Wilodge Ravine, she comes with a beef value of +35 and lines back to Cannon and Mas Du Clo. Also on offer is Wilodge Dravenelle, a daughter of the herd’s matriach Ravenelle by Cowin Anton. She’s a maternal sister to the stunning Wilodge heifer Diamante, a star of this year’s show circuit and the subject to plenty of interest.
From the James family is Cowin Daioni, an Objat daughter out of Cowin Victoria, a Jockey sired dam. She’s got a beef value of +38. Also of note will be Newmeadows Deauville fron Anthony Renton. This is by Woodhouse Brad, a Sympa son, and out of Gunnerfleet Bellissa, a Silex daughter, she comes with a beef value of +32.
And that is pretty much my selection, I’ll not delve into the weaned calves, but will make mention of the embryos on offer – Wilodge are offering four embryos by Wilodge Vantastic and out of Sarkley Bellola (the combination which produced 30,000gns bull Wilodge Dallaglio) and also another four by Sympa and out of Wilodge Vavanelle.
Also on offer in the embryos are Greenhill Viper out of Newstart Tansy from David Cormack and Gaynor McDowell and Greenhaugh U2 out of Tansy from the same vendors.
Dam of 26,000gns bull Cowin Acton has also been flushed and six of these embryos are offered, with three by Millbrook Tanko and three by Objat forward.
As I mentioned earlier there is bound to be something I’ve missed which you like the look of so by all means feel free to comment on the selections….
