Bad weather didn’t deter buyers at Gisburn Auction Marts Christmas prime cattle show and sale, which saw prices topping at £2125.20 for the champion, a 12 month old black Limousin. Consigned by Chris Longton, Warrington, Lancashire, the 506kg beast sold to restaurant owner Hervey Magnall, Bury, Lancashire.


Mr Longton also had a winner with his Limousin heifer, weighing 500kg she sold to J R and B Webster Farm Shop, Ormskirk for £1560 or 312 p/kg.


Reserve champion, an 18 month old homebred Limousin heifer also sold for £1413.50 or 275p/kg to J R Mellin Butchers, Lancashire.


Averages: premium heifers 224p/kg; premium steers 210p/kg; young bulls 168p/kg
