It may not be the most obvious thing to buy from the internet, but the Limousin Cattle Society is hoping the growth in online trading in recent years can extend to sales of semen with the launch of its new facility semenstore.co.uk

The new fully automated site has been designed to be an easy to use resource which is practical for both buyers and sellers, explains Limousin chief executive Iain Kerr.

And for those looking for a bull the site offers a range of search options to make selecting the perfect sire that bit easier, he adds. “Searches can be done by bull name, performance figures, price, predigree and a host of other criteria too.”

All semen offered by the site will be stored by Cogent, enabling buyers to be confident all semen has been handled and stored in a safe and secure manner. And, while the site is restricted to Limousin semen initially it has been set up with a view to offering semen from other breeds and species should the demand arise, explained Mr Kerr.
