Holstein classes have got off to a smooth start at Livestock 2012 under the watchful eye of Tom Kelly of Ballymakenny, Drogheda, Co. Lout who has already praised the standard of entries in the heifer classes as being those ‘that get the pulse racing’, he said.

Heifer Championship went to RA Bown’s Holmland Goldwyn Adeen – sired by Braedale Goldwyn and out of Lavenham Adeen – which he purchased in July 2012 from the Holmland dispersal at Beeston Castle, Cheshire, for a top price of circa 14,500gns.

Reserve Heifer Champion went to D B Thomas’ Lliwe Shottle Rosina, the March 2010-born heifer in milk sired by Picston Shottle and out of Castellhyfryd Sprite Rosina.
