Commercial buyers were out in force and demand for shearling ewes and rams was high at the recent Ross on Wye Lleyn sale.

 

In total 21 pens of shearlings sold for £140 a head and over, while 11 rams raised over 1,000gns with 30 falling into the 500-800gns range.

 

It was a great day for Wallace and Josie McCurdie of Rugby.  They won the shearling class in the pre sale show and then went on to realise the top price in this section.  Their 1st prize pen sold for £180 a head to D Steen, Lockerbie.  Their second pen into the ring sold for the day’s top of £240 a head to R Nakiglny, Hereford.

Jim Dufosee, Warminter had the next top at £212 to E Williams, Neath.

 

In the ewe lamb section again it was the 1st prize pen from WJ and DJ Williams, Pwllheli that topped at £150 a head to JS and A Radcliffe, Swansea.  The second prize pen from C Price, Brecon sold for £142 a head to S Prince, Monmouth.  P Bennett, Newent sold the third prize pen for £110 a head to J Bryan, Malvern.

 

In the rams DN Bennett and Son, Powys topped at 2,400gns for Plasucha Bobbys Boy.  A shearling ram bred from a John Morton sire out of a homebred ewe.  This lot was purchased by T Rees, Carmarthen.

E and D Jones were next with a Lluest shearling ram sired by Lluest Nobleman.  This sold to SL Keswick, Cheltenham for 2,100gns.  The first prize ram from WJ and DJ Williams, Pwllheli sold for 2,000gns to JM and GC Adams, Cornwall.  This ram was bred from a Hamish Goldie sire out of a homebred ewe.
